Testing out the new LJ [13 Oct 2006|01:25pm]

It's almost 2 and I'm still in my jammies, haven't brushed my teeth or my hair but have managed clean up in the studio.
These cards are the result of that little endeavor.

Back to our regularly scheduled programming [05 Jul 2005|08:19am]
Sort of. Just 9 weeks left before 2/3 leaves for school and my life changes dramatically. I'm looking forward to it and sort of dreading it. Last night we huddled on the beach in the cold wind and watched the fire works. Both Wade and 2/3 were apologetic about the lame fireworks this year, the one year I decide to go with them. I thought they were lovely but I was freezing and poor Wade suddenly got slammed with Vertigo. Watching the crowd around me I kept thinking of letting this child go out into this world. The crowd was so strange to me. We didn't see anyone we knew and that's so odd because you can't go two feet in this town without seeing someone you know. But all these people were strangers and they were scummy and drunk and it made me so jittery to think of letting her go "out there". I grew up in NY, I took buses and subways to school. I knew what to do if the guy who stopped me for directions pulled out his penis and started whacking off right then and there. I learned how to move in a giant world with scary people around me. What does she know? She's lived her whole life in a place where people still leave their doors open and she can and does just walk in after a quick knock on her friend's door. I think the really scary thing is that she's just like me when I was her age. She's ready and chomping at the bit to get going out there to have fun and do and see and feel everything there is, there's so little time. She's in a hurry and is missing lots. I can feel it all over again watching her and it scares the shit out of me.

And what do these three artichokes have to do with anything? Not a thing in the world except I love the way they look on my painting table. I won't be eating anymore of them as they are crawling with ants and soaking them doesn't really help. I'll just let the rest flower, they make monstrously strange looking flowers.

Today I made a fiber retablo....... [30 Jun 2005|03:19pm]
ish type thing. I've been dreaming of working with cloth again but it seems everytime I try something, I hate it and it ends up in the trash. What's always inspired me about working with fabric, was the fabric itself. Mostly I dyed my own fabrics but the very thought of the space and mess and time it takes eliminates that option right there. I'm just not up for it. I'm working much more "immediate" just now and loving that. And I don't have a very inspiring fabric stash, nor the cash to go get some. So I gleaned from the stash that I do have and decided to let go and make something for my Fiber Muse with what is at hand.

I just threw that wrinkly fabric on to scan this one

Pink and Blue Book [26 Jun 2005|02:35pm]
So many gorgeous pages already. Jill's lusciously pink and green houses across both pages and Ann's little pigs taking flight!

Whew [24 Jun 2005|08:54am]
Yesterday was art day with 2/3 friends in my studio. What messy fun. We set up a table outside and did that serendipity paper where everyone gets to paint, stamp, stencil and glue all over the paper and then you cut it up and use it for stuff. It didn't go as planned but few things do. They all enjoyed it though and went home with books made from that crazy paper and various other treasures and trinkets and junk they unearthed from my studio. And it didn't make a dent except for my sealing waxes. I think they're all gone. Who knew teenage girls like playing with fire and burning things?

Vacation time is over........... [20 Jun 2005|08:40am]
Went to a photography workshop this weekend to learn how to shoot my work for slides. The instructor was very good and the most important thing I learned is that I'm paying him to do my slides.

I'm not really here.... [13 Jun 2005|08:25am]
I'm on vacation.
Since Wade still has a shaky brain, we decided it was best not to sit in the car for 11 hours so we could go sit in 100+ degree weather and visit with family. Instead we're taking our little vacation right here at home. I'm so glad as I was dreading the entire week and was contemplating staying home anyway, in which case I would feel miserable AND guilty for not going with them.
And so we're off to a smashing start on our summer vacation. 2/3 has cried more tears in the last couple of days than she has all year. I'm trying not to feel the weight of the entire summer crashing down on my soul but it's a struggle. I know there'll be times like yesterday when she kicked me out of her room and slammed the door, and times like yesterday when she told me she loved me when I said goodnight to her and her friend Allie bug as they settled in to watch Office Space for the 560th time.

Because the cuteness never ends...... [08 Jun 2005|04:58pm]
Image hosted by Photobucket.com

I've been in the studio all the live long day. Tired and hungry and a little bit cranky now that I have to stop and make some food.
Robin, if you're there......My phone isn't working. I can get messages but callers can't hear me. I don't seem to be doing anything about this problem. Hmmmmm.
Anyway, thanks for the offer and I'm sorry I missed it as I am collecting books. I will be running around a bit the rest of the week. 2/3 graduates tomorrow!

[06 Jun 2005|09:36am]
It's a gorgeous Monday, Wade went to work and seemed steady as he went. Hasn't had an episode in a couple of days so I don't expect him back til this evening. His Vertigo inspired some incredible work. I'm in awe. He also cleaned the hell out of the bathroom yesterday. It's sparkling.
2/3 is off to school though I don't know when she'll be back as it's just a rehearsal day for graduation this friday. When I asked her what time I should pick her up she just looked at me for a full 5 seconds and then turned and walked out the door. I guess I'll just wait for her call. She was mad because I wouldn't let her borrow my sweatshirt this morning. We fight over the stupidest shit in the world. What fun.
On Saturday we went to the Midland graduation. It was beautiful. Sitting under the oaks listening to these incredibly smart, funny and confident graduates I couldn't help feeling sad and excited for my own girl. She'll do well there. Or she'll hate it and want to come home. I'm sure it'll be a little of both. Wade asked the director if he could enrolll himself. He's so in love with the place. I am too but wouldn't like the cutting wood for my shower part in the middle of a freezing cold and wet winter.
It's promising to be a long hard summer with Miss Thing. She goes into full pshyco mode and I join along at the drop of a hat. It would be funny if it weren't so tiring.

Thursday last I went to see my friend Katherine in Santa Barbara. A friend of hers called me the day before and was pretty upset because she'd only just heard that Katherine is now living in her van. Katherine had given her my number so that I could reassure her that all was well. Hmmmm. Charlotte (was her name) has good reasons to worry. As it turns out her brother died on the streets. She said he was perfectly happy also as he drank himself to death. She knows Katherine well and worries about her drinking and smoking habits and where it'll all end. We talked for a while and promised to keep in touch. So off I went to see Katherine. We met at the house of the man she used to work for. She was there doing her laundry, sweeping his kitchen. We left and went to visit a friend of her's in Montecito........

My weekend was a week long [31 May 2005|08:54am]
because Wade has been home since Wednesday. He had a really bad case of Vertigo and spent most of the week on his back trying to (but failing mostly) enjoy the feeling of the world spinning out of control.
Today 2/3 left for her school trip to San Francisco but not without a fight. Everyone was yelling and mad and she was slamming doors. I lay in bed knowing it would be over by 8 and hoping she wouldn't leave mad. She didn't and it was over by 8 and I have the entire week until Friday without a teenage fit to deal with. Plenty of time to get in shape for the next bout. We all pay for our sins when we have teenagers.

Turk, this is for you. The coffee stained embroidery I told you about. I really love the color this gives and the smell it leaves on the fabric is pretty intoxicating too. If you like coffee.

[22 May 2005|06:56pm]
I had a most glorious birthday on friday. Wade stayed home from work took 2/3 to school and let me sleep till I was done. We went to the gym and came home and layed around like two slugs until lunch time which came early. After that we took the dogs to the beach, Lucy's first big adventure. She didn't like it all that much. Too much walking and trying to keep up with Cassius who looks like he's auditioning for some kind of athlete dog commercial, was just too much for her. We dug for rocks since I've learned how to make holes in them for jewelry. There was a wind blowing but we found a little protected cove. Came home and picked up our girl and watched her get ready for the dance. She wore one of my "fancy" black tops and her own jeans and looked dropped dead gorgeous. Those poor boys!
A quiet way to spend a birthday, I know, but it was one of the best I've had in a long while. Thank you.
